Choice School was initially established in 1985 as a private school venture. From its inception, the school was designed as a special school for gifted children. Many children have benefited from a program and a school culture which emphasizes both social-emotional support and academic enrichment.
Choice School is now registered as an independent school under the B.C. Provincial Societies Act. We continue to focus on education for bright and gifted students. Our school is a total learning environment and our faculty is dedicated to exploring new opportunities where individuals can excel.
We have a multi-part admissions process which is customized according to needs, and based upon:
- A personal interview
Parents and students are invited to meet the Principal, find out more about the school and discuss personal needs. This may be done via telephone and by email for families applying from another country. - A school-based assessment
We require potential students to undertake a written test, the length and content of which will vary according to the age of the child. - An in-class visit
We encourage students to spend a day with us at school. This gives both parties the opportunity to try out and see if the fit is right. - Psychological assessment
In some cases we may require an in-depth assessment to be carried out by a qualified educational psychologist to help us understand individual needs. This will be proposed at the discretion of the Principal in discussion with classroom teachers. The fees for this will be responsibility of the applicant's family.
