We seek to maximize a student's learning experience by putting the individual at the core of our program. From the start, we welcome input from parents to design a workable IEP to support each student's academic and social-emotional development for the year. As a school, we go "above and beyond" in terms of how we manage the curriculum and provide for enrichment:
- Curriculum Compacting
The core curriculum is covered without
unnecessary repetition and drill. This allows us time to focus on a
diversified range of activities both within and in addition to the B.C.
curriculum. We aim to cover academic subjects in the morning to allow
students access to external instruction in, for example, intense arts
or sports programs.
- Academic Enrichment
We provide in-depth learning
opportunities through extended activities, both on and offsite. Our
own teaching staff covers a myriad of subjects to ignite the passion
for learning in our students. In addition, we have access to scientific
and academic experts for special projects and continue to develop alignments
with local museums and institutions to create intense topic studies for
all age groups.
- Managed Acceleration
Students are encouraged to reach
their full potential. From ability-appropriate grade placement in key
subjects, to in-depth exploration of more complex materials, we celebrate
our students' curiosity and passions.
- Differentiation of Curriculum
Acceleration on its own is not sufficient. The gifted student is still going to learn the material faster and more readily than the average student. For gifted students, the curriculum must be "differentiated" by changing the pace of instruction, changing the content or how it is learned, or by changing the way learning is demonstrated.
