Gifted Lecture Series – Dr. L. Kanevsky – 6:00pm – “Living Intensely”

January 14, 2015 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Choice School in partnership with the Gifted Children’s Association of BC invites you to join us from 6:00 – 9:00pm to hear Dr . Lannie Kanevsky speak on the attributes of intensity and sensitivity of gifted learners. This topic will be of interest to parents and educators.

Dr. Lannie Kanevsky is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Education at Simon Fraser University. She is the author of the Tool Kit for High End Curriculum Differentiation used widely by educators. Her work explores the learning preferences and potentials of gifted students and their peers, with the goal of offering students powerful learning experiences that are challenging and engaging. Lannie has shared her work through workshops, lectures and publications with local, national and international audiences across North America, Europe, New Zealand and Australia.

Her Topic: Living Intensely
The feelings of highly able students are often amplified so they experience events in their lives with greater intensity and sensitivity. These feelings are essential to their development. Understanding them and accepting their role in personal growth provides powerful insights on the ways in which they are similar to and different from others their age.

Conversation and Connections
Parenting a gifted child brings with it special joys but also special challenges. As a part of this evening, members of the Gifted Children’s Association of BC (GCA), will be in attendance to meet participants and share information about this province-wide parent support group. GCA, a support group of parents for parents, works to establish local organizations across the province.

Their mandate is to provide information on the special learning needs of these students and assist parents in connecting and advancing support for their gifted children in local schools.

On the evening of January 28, a follow-up meeting will be held to establish a local chapter of the GCA for Richmond and the South Fraser region.

RSVP 604-273-2148 or info@choiceschool.org.
